Xinpeng Cao
She completed her undergraduate degree in Animation, where she built a solid foundation in visual storytelling, frame composition and character design. Later, she pursued postgraduate studies in Children’s Illustration at Goldsmiths, University of London in order to further refining her artistic language tailored for young audiences.
Drawing is no longer merely a hobby for her, but an essential way of perceiving and communicating with the world. Her favourite mediums are watercolour and coloured pencils which she uses daily to capture trivial and warm fragments of daily life. Soft watercolour washes deliver gentle, muted tones, while delicate coloured pencil lines add subtle texture and delicate details. Those allow her to preserve fleeting ordinary moments that most people overlook.
Art has always been an inseparable part of her life. She developed a deep passion for drawing at an early age. This fondness has continued to shape her academic path and creative identity ever since. Besides visual creation, she has maintained a consistent love for writing stories since childhood. From simple short tales sketched alongside her childhood doodles to complete narrative manuscripts created alongside her illustration series, storytelling has stayed as a core creative thread running through all her works. She believes words and images complement each other perfectly: hand-drawn pictures visualise the emotions hidden in texts, while written stories endow her illustrations with complete, touching inner logic.
Her creative focus lies in sincere and child-oriented art. She hopes to combine her animation background, professional illustration training and long-term story-writing habit to create gentle, heartfelt illustrated works that resonate with both children and adults, recording trivial beauty and quiet emotions through the blend of pictures and words.
