More than anything, Lena wants a pet dog. But the answer is always "no." On her birthday, she ventures down the hallway to her neighbor's apartment to borrow an egg, and returns with something else entirely. What else can you expect when your neighbor is a witch? In this retelling of a Russian fairy tale, an otherworldly creature makes its way into our world, and becomes the best pet of all.

Author and illustrator

Eve Soffer Liberman wears many hats: artist; illustrator; puppeteer; seamstress; writer; musician. Her work draws inspiration from folklore and folk culture, fairy tales, nature, magic, and girlhood. Equal parts expressive, whimsical, and surreal, her work pays homage to the weird and wonderful power of imagination. Born and raised in New York City, she graduated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for the Arts and Smith College before crossing the pond to attend Goldsmiths. Regardless of where life takes her, she is determined to make contact with the tiny people that live in trees and wear acorn caps as hats.
